ATHLETICS

Viqueen Basketball

The Viqueens hosted Sidney last Friday in a Corner Conference girls basketball match-up. The game was a tough defensive battle for both teams. Sidney ended up with a 39-30 victory over Stanton. The team then traveled to South Page on Monday night to face

Nishnabotna in the Corner Conference Tournament. Stanton faced a tough press in the first half and Nishanbotna held on to a 23-19 lead at halftime. Nishnabotna went on to outscore the Viqueens 32-19 in the second half to get the 55-38 tournament win. The Viqueens are now 5-8 overall and will return to conference play on Tuesday  as they host East Mills at 6:00 PM.

Viking Basketball

Stanton Vikings were able to defeat the Sidney Cowboys Friday night in double overtime 55-49. This improves our record to 12-0 and 10-0 in the conference. That takes us into the conference tourney where we have the #1 seed. Tuesday's weather forced the quarterfinal games to Wednesday night where the Vikings defeated the Heartland Christian Eagles 73-10. We hosted the semifinals on Thursday night with Fremont Mills (#4 seed) vs East Mills (#6 seed) at 6:00 and then the Vikings took on the Trojans (#4 seed) of Essex in the other semifinal game. Winners will play for the championship at 7:30 PM and losers will play in the consolation game at 6:00 PM both in Malvern on Saturday night.

JV Girls Basketball

The JV girls basketball team played 2 quarters against Sidney on Friday night and lost 30-9. They will return to action on Tuesday, January 26th as they host East Mills at 4:00 PM.

GUIDANCE

Iowa College Access Network

Steve Irvin from the Iowa College Access Network will be in Stanton on Wednesday, January 27th. He will be visiting with students in the classroom from 9:50 AM-11:30 AM. He would be available any other time in the day if Stanton senior parents need help with the FAFSA. They would have to estimate with their 2014 taxes, but if students are planning to go to University of Iowa or UNI, they want the FAFSA done as soon as they can. That would be estimating with the 2014 taxes and would require it be updated when the 2015 taxes are done.
Please let Mrs. Mainquist know if you would like to meet with him.
