ATHLETICS

Viking Football

The Vikings opened up district play last Friday night in exciting fashion--returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown! The Viking's offense struggled at times against a tough CAM team, but fought hard to keep the Cougars out of the end zone. Statistically the 2 teams were about even on offense and defense, but it was Stanton's special teams play that made the biggest difference on the scoreboard. The team will need to continue to show improvement in all areas of the game as they travel to Malvern tonight to take on an undefeated East Mills. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

Viqueen Volleyball

On Thursday, September 10th, the Viqueens traveled to College Springs to take on the Rebels of South Page. The junior varsity squad came out strong and won their match with scores of 21-7 and 21-14. The varsity squad came away with a conference win with game scores of 25-11, 25-7 and 25-4. On Saturday, the Viqueens competed in the Shenandoah Tournament. The Queens had 2 wins and 2 losses in pool play which put them in top four of the nine teams in the tournament. The Viqueens lost both of their matches in the championship bracket to place fourth for the day. On Thursday, September 17th, the team will travel to Farragut for a conference match with the Nishnabotna BlueDevils. The Queens have a busy week next week as they with travel to Corning on Monday, September 21st to take on Southwest Vally and then they turn around to travel to Tabor on Tuesday, September 22nd to play Fremont Mills.  Both matches will begin at 5:30 with junior varsity taking the court prior to the varsity match up. On Saturday, September 26th, the varsity team will travel to Bedford for the Bedford tournament.

JV Football

The JV team opened their season at home vs Falls City Sacred Heart. The team struggled to hang onto the ball early, giving Falls City the ball on our own 8 yard line in the first series and the ball got lose on the second series in their end zone for a touchdown. The defense played well for the first game of the season, giving up 22 points after the initial 14. The offense will show improvement as they work getting more repetitions on the fundamentals in practice. The JV team will be back in action next Monday night in Stanton vs Essex. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM.

Junior High Volleyball

The junior Viqueens traveled to Clarinda on Thursday, September 10th  for a match against Clarinda Lutheran/South Page. Team one won one game and lost one game (11-21 and 21-14) and Team two won both of their games (21-15 and 21-8). The squad will travel to Hamburg on Thursday, September 17th take on Nishnabotna’s junior high squad. Next week, the team travels to Tabor for a 3:45 match with Fremont Mills and on Thursday, September 24th, we will host Bedford. The games on the 24th will be held in the Viking Center with a start time of 4:00 pm. We appreciate your continued support!

'Vikes For Life' Platoon Steak Supper

In celebration of community service rendered and platoon points earned through other various activities ranging from academic grades to increases in weight room performances, the winning platoons and highest point-getters enjoyed steak, potatoes, chips, and watermelon at coach Grebin's house. A very large, team-engineered bonfire was ignited for roasting marshmallows. The entire varsity football team joined later for some s'mores and a few games in the backyard. There were still enough coals to roast marshmallows Sunday afternoon and a few fun memories that will last.
