ATHLETICS

MidAmerican Energy Night

The January 11th basketball game with East Mills will be sponsored by Mid-American Energy. Thanks to Wes Royal for this generous donation.

Viqueen Basketball

Stanton Viqueens picked up two conference wins to even their record at 3-3.

East Mills hosted the Queens on Friday, December 7th, a strong defensive effort allowed the Queens to jump out to a 12-0 first quarter lead. Coach Snyder said, "The half-court pressure by Tara Peterson and Hope Ogletree proved to be a winning combination the entire night as it contributed to a major percentage of our scoring.  We felt going into the game that we need to keep the ball from their inside scoring threat, we managed to do that with defensive pressure on their guards." Final score 43-22.

On the road again Tuesday the Queens picked up their third win of the season with a 51-33 win over Essex.  Again a quick start set the pace for victory with the Queens jumping out to a 17-7 lead. This would prove to be a night for Kami Tibben to show off her offensive ability. Kami was 8 of 16 from the floor and 7 of 8 from the free throw line. She also collected 9 rebounds and 7 steals. “The team defense that has kept the Queens in most games this year has sparked some offense that the Queens lacked a year ago. We seem to be making some progress at both ends of the court, we need that to happen as we get deeper into the season," stated Coach Snyder.

Viking Basketball

The Vikings continued to play well by taking 2 conference games on Friday, December 14th, at Fremont-Mills and Tuesday, December 18th vs Heartland Christian. The Vikes defeated Fremont-Mills 74-49.  We stayed pretty consistent throughout to take home the conference win.

Tuesday night we welcomed the Eagles of Heartland Christian. We were up 25-2 and were able to cruise to a 76-30 win. We will take on Clarinda Academy at home tonight. They are playing very well and will come into Stanton very confident.

Junior High Boys Basketball

The Junior High boys' lost a close game vs Fremont-Mills last Friday, but picked up a good win this past Tuesday as they head into the Christmas break. The team will be in action the same day they return to school on January 3rd at Hamburg. Tipoff in Hamburg will be about 5:00 PM following the Junior High girls game.
