SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Trash Bag Fundraiser

  The elementary office has received a new supply of trash bags!  All rolls are $10.00 (checks should be made payable to Stanton School) and all three sizes are available. Please call the elementary office at 829-2171 to purchase your trash bags!  It is time to stock up for all of your spring and summer needs!

 

ATHLETICS

2nd Annual Viking-Viqueen Golf Scramble

  We hope you're exited for Stanton's 2nd Annual Viking-Viqueen Golf Scramble! Thank you for everyone's support last year. It was such a successful event. We've already done a lot of prep work, but we need your continued support, so here are the event details:

Villisca Country Club

Proceeds will support Stanton Athletics

Rain Date-June 17, 2018

No one under the age of 18 will be permitted to play

4-Person Scramble:

Mixed teams (men/women) are encouraged.

Team entry fees - $120.00 ($30.00 per golfer)

 

Tournament includes: 9 holes w/ Cart, post tournament meal, and prizes.

Another 9-holes of competitive team play is available free-of-charge.

On-course fundraising games can be purchased at registration.

Raffle tickets will be sold during the tournament.

Winners will be drawn during dinner.

Wells Fargo CollegeSTEPS Scholarship Program – June 30

-sign up at wellsfargo.com/collegesteps

-students will be given tips about scholarships, financial aid, testing, and college preparation at no cost

-Wells Fargo will give away $1,000 college scholarships to 100 high school seniors

2018 Balanced Man Scholarship – due July 31

-awarded to incoming freshman at Iowa State University, Drake University, University of Northern Iowa, University of Iowa or University of Minnesota

-based on scholarship, athletics, leadership, and community involvement

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Swedish School

  The Stanton Historical Society is sponsoring Svenska Skolan (Swedish School) the week of June 11th. Students who have completed 1st through 6th grade are eligible to attend. The curriculum includes singing, dancing, introduction to Swedish language, crafts and study of the culture.  Students meet from 9:00 AM to noon and will perform at the Midsommar celebration the evening of June 16th. Please call Yvonne Johnson at 586-4504 to enroll your student.   

Library Summer Reading Program

  The Stanton Public Library 2018 Summer Reading Program, “Libraries Rock”, is open to preschool age through adults, with prize drawings and more. You may register for the reading program any time after the last day of school at the library or go online to www.stanton.lib.ia.us and click the summer reading tab and then

register online link. The summer reading program begins June 4th and runs until July 13th. Story Time will be Tuesday from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM beginning June 6th. Three programs will be offered: 1) Animal Sounds–June 15th, 2:00-3:00 PM; 2) Music Instrument–June 18th, 1:00-2:00 PM; 3) Tinikling Dance-June 27th, 1:00-2:00 PM. Vacation Bible School

  The community Vacation Bible School "Anchored in Faith" will be held this year June 17th-20th.  It will start with a family program on Sunday the 17th at Viking Lake. The 18th-20th will be 9:00-11:30 in the morning this year and be held at the Covenant Church. Look for the flyer that is being sent home with students!

Worship Night

  The Covenant Church is holding a worship night at 7:00 PM, June 3rd. This will be followed by an overnight for Jr and Sr High students.

Covenant Community Youth Group Overnighter

  On Sunday evening June 3rd, the Covenant Community youth group will have a Jr.-Sr. High overnight. It will start at 7:00 PM and end at 8:00 AM and include pizza, fun at the Viking center and a Nerf War at the church. Go to stantoniowa.org/youth for info.  

JHUG and CYO

  JHUG and CYO will meet Sunday June 3rd, at 6:00 PM to Swim/play beach Volleyball. Bring a friend! Food & drinks will be provided.

American Legion Baseball Day

  Stanton’s American Legion Baseball Day is coming up on Saturday, June 9th, at Anderson Park! Youth baseball and softball games start at 8:00 AM and run throughout the day.

  Live Well Montgomery County will host a 5K Fun Run/Walk at 8am. All ages welcome. Cost is $25. Contact Justin Miller to register at (712)829-2900.

  The Darwin “Rosy” Rossander Sand Volleyball Tournament begins at 10:00 AM. Cost is $75/team or $85/team for day-of registration. This event raises money for local scholarships. Contact Sally Stoakes to register at (402)201-9844.

 The Darwin “Rosy” Rossander Cornhole Tournament begins at 3:00 PM. Cost is $25/team or $30 for day-of registration. This event raises money for local scholarships. Contact Sally Stoakes to register at (402)201-9844.

  The Show & Shine Car Show is from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM. This is for any level car/truck and finished or unfinished. There is no entry fee or prizes and the event is rain or shine. Free homemade ice cream at the newly-renovated gas station open house.

  Stanton Schools will host a Viking Golf Tournament on Sunday, June 10th, at the Villisca Country Club. Start time is 12:30 PM. Contact Lacey Stephens at (402)650-7173!

Sewing Classes

  Beginning Sewing classes for ages 8-14 will be offered at the Viking Center this summer. Class size will be limited, so sign up early. All supplies and machines will be provided. Eight days total per session, 9:30 AM-12:00 PM each day. Please be sure you can attend all 8 days. $25 fee per session, payable to the Viking Center.

               Session 1: June 25th-July 6th (Not July 4th)

               Session 2: July 30th-August 10th

  Topics will include basic sewing skills such as familiarity with the machine, fabric selection the use of various stitches, and the construction of at least one project. Project to be determined, such as a pillowcase, pajama pants, apron, table runner, etc.

Babysitter Workshop

  Join the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach for a hands-on babysitting workshop to learn about what it takes to be a responsible, caring, trustworthy, competent, safe and FUN babysitter! The workshop will be held on Friday, June 8th, from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM in the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Lower Level Conference Center. Open to students who have completed 5th-11th grade. Pre-registration is required. Deadline is Friday, June 1st. $10/person and lunch will be included. Make checks payable to Montgomery County Extension. Financial assistance available, please contact the Extension Office at (712)623-2592.

 MCMH Offers Free Summer Sports Enhancement Program

  Montgomery County Memorial Hospital is proud to offer Xplosion to Montgomery County students! Xplosion is a weightlifting program for young adults wanting to improve their strength, speed and agility. Xplosion emcompasses positive body image, proper nutrition, stretching and body awareness to avoid injury. Orientation is Wednesday, June 6th, at 11:00 AM in the MCMH Fitness Connection Gym.
