Calendar Changes
Last Day of School
The last day of school will be Friday, June 1st, with an early dismissal at 1:05/1:15 PM. There WILL ALSO BE an early dismissal on Wednesday, May 23rd. There WILL NOT be an early dismissal on Friday, May 25th or Wednesday, May 30th.
SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
8th Grade Graduation
Eighth Grade Graduation will be held on Tuesday, May 22nd, at 7:00 PM in the High School Gymnasium. Please join us to celebrate this great tradition! Eighth graders will need to be in the Music Room by 6:30 PM on May 22nd. Those participating in the reception at the school may set up their half of the table any time after school. After the ceremony, students will form a reception line, once everyone is through this line students may continue with the reception or leave with their families.
Trash Bag Fundraiser
The elementary office has received a new supply of trash bags! The elementary students are currently taking orders. All rolls are $10.00 (checks should be made payable to Stanton School) and all three sizes are available. Please contact an elementary student or call the elementary office at 829-2171 to purchase your trash bags! It is time to stock up for all of your spring and summer needs!
Stanton School Release for Student Aide Program
The Population Health Department at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital is organizing a student athletic training aide program for the Fall 2018 sports season and will begin in August. It will be open for a limited number of high school students in Stanton who are interested in athletic training or a similar health care profession as a career. The program will be supervised by Kelsi Huseman, Certified Athletic Trainer, who provides athletic training coverage to Stanton High Schools. Applications are due Tuesday, May 25, 2018.

2nd Annual Viking-Viqueen Golf Scramble
We hope you're exited for Stanton's 2nd Annual Viking-Viqueen Golf Scramble! Thank you for everyone's support last year. It was such a successful event. We've already done a lot of prep work, but we need your continued support, so here are the event details:

Mixed teams (men/women) are encouraged.
Team entry fees - $120.00 ($30.00 per golfer)
Tournament includes: 9 holes w/ Cart, post tournament meal, and prizes.
Another 9-holes of competitive team play is available free-of-charge.
On-course fundraising games can be purchased at registration.
Raffle tickets will be sold during the tournament.
Winners will be drawn during dinner.

Vikings
The high school boys ended their regular season at the state qualifying meet in Tabor. Almost 9 out of the 10 athletes that participate had personal best performances. Way to go Vikings! Drake Johnson qualified for the state meet for his second year in a row in the 400 hurdles. He will be competing for a medal today at 11:20 as his teammates cheer him on! Congratulations on a season of improved performances! Also, a "Thank You" to all of those who have helped at the Stanton hosted track meets; your help was greatly appreciated!
Junior High Girls Track
The Stanton Junior High girls track team competed at the Corner Conference Junior High meet that wrapped up their track season on Friday, May 11th. Brooklyn Silva led all field event entries with a personal best throw of 68-08 in the discus and placing second. In the high jump event, Allie Sandin placed second with a leap of 4-4. Long jump participants, Marleigh Johnson and Addison Olson placed fifth and sixth respectively. Addison jumped her season best jump of 12-8. Jenna Stephens threw the shot put to a fourth place finish.
The shuttle hurdle relay team (Brooklyn Silva, Jenna Stephens, Bethany Goodemote and Abby Burke) was a fourth place finisher. Marleigh Johnson placed fourth in the 200m dash and third in the 200m hurdles. In the 400 meter dash, Addison Olson placed fifth and Addison placed third in her first mile event with a time of 6:16.17. In the 800, Allie Sandin placed fifth overall.The 4 x 100 team of Marleigh Johnson, Abby Burke, Brooklyn Silva and Allie Sandin placed third. The 4 x 200 team (Emily A, Mackenzie R., Ashley H., and Faythe G.) placed fourth and the 4 x 400 team (Ashley H., Bethany G., Mackenzie R., Emily A.,) placed third. The distance medley relay team (Faythe G., Ashley H., Jenna S., Emily A.) also placed fourth. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the girls in purple this spring – we appreciate it!
Junior High Boys Track
The Junior High boys track team topped their season off with a win Friday night at the Corner Conference Track Meet. The win gave the boys 5 first place trophies on the season! First place finishers included Logan Roberts(400), Levi Martin(1600,800), Jack Roberts (High Jump, Long Jump), 4x800 team of Brandon Huddle, Kywin Tibben, Ransom Mascher, and Levi Martin, Shuttle Hurdle team of Carter Johnson, Slade Graham, Brandon Huddle, and Joshua Martin, 800 Sprint Medley team of Roary Blair, Jonan Wookey, Ransom Mascher, and Logan Roberts, and the 4x400 team of John Peterson, Carter Johnson, Jack Roberts, and Logan Roberts. Thank you for all of your support and make sure to congratulate these boys on an outstanding season! Go Vikes!
Team FITness
Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday for the rest of the school year, there will be an opportunity to join the team at 6:15 on each of those days for a 45-60 minute workout to include stretching. Both males and females are encouraged to attend if they have fitness goals. Most male athletes in JH/HS have had their height, weight, and body measurements taken along with physical fitness test that included push-ups, sit-ups, chin-ups, and a 2-mile run for time. All of that information will be used to determine body fat % as well as an individual nutrition and exercise plan to meet their personal goals.

Horatio Alger Career & Technical Scholarship - June 15
To be considered for the Horatio Alger Career & Technical Scholarship Program, applicants must:
* Have completed high school or plan to complete high school by spring of 2018 with plans to enroll at a non-profit post-secondary institution by fall of 2018
* exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a career or technical program at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States
*Demonstrate critical financial need (must be eligible to receive the Federal Pell grant as determined by completion of the FAFSA)
*Demonstrate perseverance in overcoming adversity
*Be involved in community service activities
*Be 30 years old or younger
*Be a United States citizen

Swedish School
The Stanton Historical Society is sponsoring Svenska Skolan (Swedish School) the week of June 11th. Students who have completed 1st through 6th grade are eligible to attend. The curriculum includes singing, dancing, introduction to Swedish language, crafts and study of the culture. Students meet from 9 AM to noon and will perform at the Midsommar celebration the evening of June 16th. Please call Yvonne Johnson at 586-4504 to enroll your student.
