State Large Group Speech Results
The Stanton High School large group speech students traveled to state speech contest at Waukee High School on Saturday, February 3rd. It was a great day performing and learning more about the speech program in Iowa. Congratulations to the teams! The group improv team of Austin Houston, Noah Kammerer, and Devin Isaccson received a mixed two rating. The group mime team of Austin Houston, Noah Kammerer, Devin Isaccson, Will Roberts, and Waverley Brown received three straight ones. The radio broadcasting team of Nick Mueller, Will Roberts, Waverley Brown, Abbi Adams, Mallorie Wookey, Nicole Vorhies, and Anika Wenstrand received a mixed two rating. The radio broadcasting team of Andrew Hammargren, Easton Hultman, Savanna Moffett, Emma Roberts, Alyssa Resh, Kaitlyn Bruce, Brooklyn Adams, and Kami Tibben received a mixed two rating. We would like to thank the excellent support we had at contest from friends, family, and community members! Congratulations to the large group speech students!
National Honor Society Cookie Sale
The National Honor Society will be selling cookies for Valentine’s Day this year. The money raised will be used for two annual scholarships given to Stanton students. Cookie sales began February 8th and will run until February 13th. They will sell for $0.40 each or 3 for $1.00. Order forms were given to the elementary students. Middle school and high school students may get a form from a National Honor Society member or pick one up in the office. Thank you for your support of our students.
Junior Class Parent Meeting
The Junior class parents will be having a meeting to discuss the Prom meal and how parents will be helping with the meal on February 21st at 7:00 PM in the high school library. All are invited to attend.
Blood Drive
FCCLA is sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, March 1st, from 8:00 AM-2:00 PM at the Viking Center. It is a scholarship program for our students. Please mark your calendars.
Junior Class Meal
The junior class will be serving a meal at the PTSO Family Fun Night on Friday, February 23rd. They will be serving your choice of Chili and Cinnamon Rolls or Hot Dogs, Chips, and Cinnamon Roll. Free will donation with a minimum of $5.00. All proceeds will go towards the junior class fund.
Students advance to Science Fair
Congratulations to the following students who will advance to the Corner Conference Science Fair on February 22nd at Fremont-Mills.

Corner Conference Science Fair Judges Needed
The Corner Conference Science Fair for middle school students will once again be held at Fremont-Mills this year. Each school district is asked to bring 3 to 5 judges. We are looking for adults to travel to Fremont-Mills on Thursday, February 22nd, to judge the Corner Conference Science Fair. It will be an exciting year to judge as projects will be experiments completed by the students. If you are able to judge from approximately 9 AM until Noon on February 22nd,

ATHLETICS
District Basketball
Stanton will be hosting the first round of District Boys Basketball on Thursday, February 15th, starting at 6:30 PM. Admission is $6.00 for
adults and students. No school, conference, or season passes can be honored.
Vikings
The Vikings had a good night last Friday when they played Clarinda Academy. The JV boys played 2 quarters and came out on top, 24-20. The Varsity got off to a good start and took a 46-16 lead into the halftime. They ended with a 69-40 victory over the Eagles, clinching an undefeated season in conference play.
On Monday, the 5th, the Vikes had another good start that led them to a 41-11 halftime lead over a young Lenox team. The Vikings ended Parents’ Night with a strong 66-26 victory over the Tigers. Congrats to the seniors, Tanner Anderson, Dillion Rocha, Easton Blunt and Noah Kammerer.
Tuesday, the 6th, the Vikings traveled to Diagonal on a snowy night to take on the Maroons. They got off to a good start, leading 20-5 after the 1st quarter. Midway through the 3rd quarter they went on a 24-0 run to take command and ended up with a 93-59 win.
Weight Room Invitation
An invitation has been extended to both male and female students in grades 6-8 for the month of February. Focus is being spent on teaching proper technique, safety, and sport specific training preparing them for successful junior high and high school athletics. Currently, we are meeting on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:25 PM in the high school weight room. Pop Tab Thank You
Virginia Abraham would like to thank everyone for saving tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. One hundred pounds of tabs has been collected and delivered to the house. Please continue to save them and dropping them off at the 216 Broad Ave., Stanton, or calling her at 829-2433.
All are invited to Bible Club Valentine’s fun!
There will be Bible Club on Wednesday, February 14th, after school. With a note to their school teacher, kids ride on Tom’s bus for drop off at the Covenant Church. There will be craft, snack, game, and story stations! Pick up is at 5:00 PM, with rides available to the daycare.

PATRON NOTIFICATION OF
OPEN ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS
Parents/guardians considering the use of the open enrollment option to enroll their child/ren in another public school district in the state of Iowa should be aware of the following dates:
March 1, 2018—Last date for regular open enrollment requests for the 2018-2019 school year for students in grades 1-12.
September 1, 2018—Last date for open enrollment requests for entering kindergarten students and those students falling under the “good cause” definition for the 2018-2019 school year.
Parents/guardians of open enrolled students whose income falls below 160% of the federal poverty guidelines are eligible for transportation assistance. This may be in the form of actual transportation or in the form of a cash stipend.
Parents should be aware that open enrollment may result in the loss of athletic eligibility.
