Regional Basketball

Stanton will be hosting the first round of Regional Girls Basketball on Thursday night starting at 7:00 PM. Admission is $6.00 for adults and students. No school, conference, or season passes can be honored.

Viqueens

Stanton Viqueens played SW Valley last Thursday. The Viqueens ran out to an early first quarter lead 13-7 only to fall flat in the 2nd and 3rd frames scoring 4 and 2 points respectively. Coach Snyder said, "Our scoring troubles continued but only down 3 at half was a positive we could at least work with. We needed to come out after half and hit some shots and that just did not happen, we had a chance to make a game of it against a quality opponent"

The Viqueens turned what seemed to be a run of the mill double digit loss into a 4th quarter barn burner Friday night in Stanton High School gym. With Fremont-Mills visiting it appeared that Stanton was going to settle for another loss due to a lack of offensive production.  This would not be the case in the 4th quarter the Queens hit a different gear. In the final minutes Stanton hit 4 3 pointers with Anika Wenstrand knocking down 2 and Hope Ogletree and Shelby Brockshus each hitting one.  Coach Snyder commented, "We had the game on the line against an 11-6 team, hopefully this can give us some much needed momentum heading into the final stretch of the season."

Vikings

The Vikings had a very good week on the court. We went 3-0 with good wins over Essex, Southwest Valley and Fremont-Mills. We shot the ball very well all week and the defense played well. Against SWV we were able to take an 11 point lead at halftime and extend it during a 31 point 3rd quarter and hitting 7 3's in the 3rd quarter alone.  Friday night we were able to get out to a 14-0 lead and stay in control throughout the game.

We were able to secure the regular season championship on Tuesday night at Sidney but beating the cowboys 76-65. We have 1 game left in the conference race at Clarinda Academy. These seniors have been a part of a 3rd place tourney trophy as freshmen,  Conference regular season and tourney champs as sophomores, 2nd place tourney and co-regular season champs and District champs as juniors and now tourney champs and regular season champs as seniors. 7 basketball trophies will have their name on them!!

Next week will be a busy one with home game/parents’ night on Monday vs Lenox, Tuesday at Diagonal and Friday at Bedford.
