STANTON COMMUNITY SCHOOL BULLETIN OCTOBER 27, 2017

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, November 2nd, 8:00 AM-8:00 PM. There is no school on Thursday, November 2nd and Friday, November 3rd.

 

Picture retakes will be November 9th. Please bring your picture packets back that day to turn in.

 

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Junior Class Magazine Sales

  The Junior Class Annual Magazine Fundraiser is underway. All members of the junior class are selling magazines subscriptions and renewals. We appreciate your continued support of this fundraiser and the proceeds will assist the juniors in planning the 2018 Jr/Sr Prom. Please contact the school at 829-2162 if you are interested in purchasing a subscription and are not contacted by a junior class student.

Parent Access to AR

  Would you like to know how your child is doing with their AR points? The school is able to provide you Parent Access to view your son/daughter's current AR points and book levels. Parents who signed up previously may use the same information as in the past- if you have a new child in the system, please let Mrs. Erickson know so she can add that child. If you have not previously signed up for this option, you may do so by e-mailing Mrs. Erickson cerickson@stantonschools.com the following information:

Scholastic Book Fair

  The Scholastic Book Fair will be starting today. The fair will be held in the elementary concourse. Dates of the fair are October 27th-November 2nd.

 

PRINCIPAL

  Friday, October 20th, was the end of the 1st quarter.  We hope you take advantage of our parent/teacher conferences on Thursday, November 2nd from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. High School Staff will be in their rooms until 4:00 PM then they will be located in the library. As always, I encourage you to contact any staff any time if you have questions.

 

ATHLETICS

State Football Playoffs

  Stanton will host the first round of State Football Playoffs tonight. Stanton will play Fremont-Mills at 7:00 PM. Admission is $6.00 for students and adults with no passes accepted.

Viqueens

  The Viqueens continue down the regional trail as they traveled to Bedford on Monday, October 23rd, for a quarter-final regional match against Lenox. The Viqueens dropped the first set 17-25, and then came roaring back to win the next three sets 25-18, 25-20 and a huge come from behind victory in the fourth set, 26-24. The Viqueens traveled to Essex last night for the regional semi-final match against Essex. 

Vikings

  The Vikings defeated Bedford to become the District 6 champions and earned a #1 seed for the playoffs. The Vikings are now preparing for their playoff match-up vs the #2 seed from District 7, Fremont-Mills. Stanton will host tonight with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 PM.  Wear your winter clothes, bring a blanket, and cheer the Vikings on to a victory!

The Hagan Scholarship

1. Application Deadline November 15, 2017. NO EXCEPTIONS.

2. Applications reviewed for completeness and eligibility.

3. Applications Evaluated.

4. Semi-Finalists provide supplemental information.

5. Finalists notified and interviewed in April, 2017 in Columbia, Missouri.

6. Scholarships awarded and notifications mailed “Return Service Requested.”

Must be a Citizen of the United States.

Must have attended as a junior and senior an eligible public high school.

Must be a student in the 2018 high school graduating class.

Must have achieved a high school CGPA of 3.50 or higher.

Must score 23 or higher on the ACT (Composite Score); or 1,200 on the New SAT (Reading & Math).

Must enroll in a four year college the first semester following high school graduation.

Must work 240 hours in the twelve months prior to the start of college.

Must complete the FAFSA in 2017 using 2016 tax return information.

FAFSA EFC must be less than $6,500.

     Must apply for eligible Federal and State grants.

Must not have been convicted of a felony.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

JHUG & CYO Meeting

  JHUG & CYO will meet at Mamrelund Lutheran church parking lot on Sunday, October 29th, 7:00 PM to go to Brooks Haunted House Cost is $5.00 a person. Come join us for a spooky fun time!

Trick or Treat on the Trail

  Stanton Betterment Association’s 11th Annual Trick or Treat on the Trail will be held on October 28th from 3:00-5:00 PM. They are in need of candy, groups to pass out candy, hayrack ride helpers and approximately 400 little goblins. To sign up or for further information, call Jacque Bates at 829-2814 or email her at batesjnb@myfmtc.com. No dogs please. Trick or Treat at Accura Healthcare will be 3:00-4:00 PM.

Stanton Youth Basketball Camp 2017

  The Viking Center will host a youth basketball camp for boys and girls who plan to play basketball this season in grades 3rd-6th. Camp will be held in the Viking Center gym on Tuesday, November 14th, Wednesday, November 15th and Thursday, November 16th from 6:30 PM-8:00 PM each day. During camp, we will teach and demonstrate the fundamentals of the game prior to the regular season, which begins in December. In addition to going over the fundamentals, there will be plenty of games and contests each day! Cost of camp is $15/participant. Registration forms can be found at the Viking Center, at the Stanton Elementary Office, and on our website:  www.stantonvikingcenter.com. Forms are due no later than Friday November 10th.

***PLEASE NOTE:  Camp is different from the Youth Basketball Regular Season.  Forms for the regular season will be released within the next few weeks***
