CALENDAR CHANGE
National Honor Society Induction will now be held on October 26th at 10:00 AM. Please make note of this as it is a change from the school calendar.
SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Junior Class Magazine Sales
The Junior Class Annual Magazine Fundraiser is underway. All members of the junior class are selling magazines subscriptions and renewals. We appreciate your continued support of this fundraiser and the proceeds will assist the juniors in planning the 2018 Jr/Sr Prom. Please contact the school at 829-2162 if you are interested in purchasing a subscription and are not contacted by a junior class student.
Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair will be coming in October. The fair will be held in the elementary concourse. Dates of the fair are October 27th-November 2nd.
ATHLETICS
Regional Volleyball
Regional Volleyball will be held in Stanton on Tuesday, October 17th, with Stanton playing South Page. Regional Volleyball admission is $6.00 for adults and students with no passes accepted.
MidAmerican Energy Night
The final regular season football game on October 20th will be sponsored by MidAmerican Energy. Thank you Wes Royal and MidAmerican Energy for this generous donation.
Viqueen Volleyball
On Saturday, our freshmen team traveled to Red Oak for the Red Oak Freshmen tournament. In round robin play, the team won their matches against Carroll Kuemper, Atlantic and Dennison and lost a match to the Red Oak team which placed them second overall out of the seven teams from morning play to go into the championship bracket. In the Championship round, the team fought hard but lost a three set re-match against Carroll Kuemper (18-21 and 12-21) to place them third overall for the day. Fantastic job girls!
On Tuesday, October 10th, the Viqueens hosted the Clarinda Academy Eagles. Parents Night was also observed between the JV and Varsity action. Seniors Abbi Adams, Waverley Brown and Baylee Gibbs along with their parents were recognized on the court between games. The JV team was victorious winning two sets against the Eagles. The varsity squad posted another conference win with a victory (25-10, 25-7, 25-8). On Thursday, October, 12th, the team hosted Sidney for their last regular season conference match. Pink Out Night was observed with multiple activities during the evening.
The varsity squad will head in to regional action on next Tuesday, October 17th, as they host South Page for the first round. Game time is 7:00 PM. No passes are allowed and admission for regional games is $6.00 for everyone. Come out and support the Queens as they travel the regional trail!
Viking Football
The Vikings defeated Lenox last Friday at Lenox to clinch a spot in the playoffs! This week the Vikings are beginning to prepare for their regular season finale as they will host Bedford next Friday, October 20th. Currently, Bedford and Stanton are both unbeaten in district 6 play. See you next Friday night, October 20th, for what should be a very exciting home game! Kickoff will be at 7:00 PM.
Junior High Volleyball
The junior Viqueens traveled to Tabor on Monday to participate in the Fremont-Mills Junior High Volleyball Jamboree. The Viqueens lost their first match against Sidney (20-22, 4-21) and won matches against Essex (21-16, 21-16), Hamburg (21-12, 15-21, 17-15) and South Page (21-13, 21-17). Congratulations girls on a very strong performance!
On Thursday, the team hosted Sidney for their final regular season match of the year and on Saturday the team will participate in a 6-team tournament at the Viking Center in Stanton. Other teams participating in the tournament are Murray, Treynor, East Mills, Griswold and Sidney. Games will be held at the VC and the high school gym. The first game for the Stanton team is at 8:30 in the VC when they take on East Mills.
Admission is $3.00 for adults and $2 for students/children.
Junior High Football
The Junior High football team tied the visiting Lenox Tigers 22-22 on Monday night. With the tie that brings the teams record to 2-1-1 with one game remaining on their schedule. The final game of the year will be Monday at home against Fremont-Mills. Come support the boys as they finish the season and hope to achieve their goal of a winning record.

ACT Prep
-Stanton students will have an ACT review on October 26th with Mrs. Linda Williams and Mr. Lee Haidsiak. They will be given review books and are expected to have completed only the math section before that day.

The Hagan Scholarship
1. Application Deadline November 15, 2017. NO EXCEPTIONS.

5. Finalists notified and interviewed in April, 2017 in Columbia, Missouri.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Meal
Montgomery County Memorial Hospital will host a cookout on Friday, October 20th, from 5:30 PM-7:00 PM in the high school cafeteria. Menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, fruit, and chips. There is a free-will donation with all proceeds going to the Stanton High School Activity Fund. Come out and support the Vikings!
