2017 Stanton Jr-Sr Prom Royalty
Congratulations to Alexis Stoakes and Camden Sundberg for being named Prom Queen and King of the Stanton Jr.-Sr. Prom last Saturday night.
Jr-Sr Prom Thank You
Even though the weather was a “little” on the cool and rainy side, the 2017 Jr.-Sr. Prom was a huge success on Saturday evening, April 29th. The Junior Class and their sponsors would like to extend a HUGE “Thank You” to the following who helped make our evening special: Sarah Culver of Culver Creations for her assistance with decorations and her help in decorating the gym, Julie Strickland of Strickland Photography for taking prom photos, DJ Bill Whitt of Tunz 4 U, the FMTC for use of their speaker system, Mickey Anderson for emceeing the drive-down, Justin Miller and the Viking Center for allowing us to change walk-in plans and use the Viking Center facility and Rick Boyer for providing the invocation at the prom meal and helping decorate. The students and guests enjoyed a delicious meal with help from Joanie Sink who coordinated the meal, Rocky Rocha who prepared the meat, potatoes, gravy, and cheesecake, the junior class parents who provided items for the meal, and Sara Kammerer, Shelley Anderson, Christi Elwood, Clarisa Johnson, Dana Gibbs, Alix Kammerer, Gen Houston, Sara Culver, Marla and Mickey Anderson, Scott and Robin Culbertson, Shawna Olson, Teresa and John Wenstrand, Michelle Sandin who helped in the kitchen, along with the 8 sophomore and freshmen servers who did a wonderful job assisting at the meal. Thank you to Eric Anderson, Wade Culver, Tim Kammerer, Brandon Adams, and Bryan Jenkins who helped park vehicles. We cannot thank you enough for making our prom a very special evening!
Thank You to The Danny Anderson Family
The Stanton 4th graders would like to thank the family of Danny Anderson for the fishing poles they received on Tuesday. Each of the 24 fourth graders were given their own fishing pole from Danny's grandchildren Stormey Clark Dykes (and Joe Dykes) and Jeb Clark.
4th Grade Field Trip
The Stanton 4th graders went to the State Capitol Building and Science Center of Iowa on Friday, April 28th. The rainy weather didn't keep them from having a great day. Thanks to parent chaperones Stacy Taylor, Katie Hart, Ashley McDonald, Stephanie Burke, and Sally Stoakes. Also thanks to Chris Stephens for driving our bus.
Elementary Awards Program
The elementary awards program will be held on Tuesday, May 30th, beginning at 8:45 AM in the concourse area. A variety of awards will be presented to the elementary students including perfect attendance awards and accelerated reading awards.
Donated Tree
The Villisca Lions Club has donated a tree again this year to be planted in Stanton. Brad Riphagen from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources as well as Julia and Darwin Williams representing the Villisca Lions Club came to talk to the 4th graders about the importance of trees and dangers facing trees. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate so we will plant the tree at Old Main in the near future.
Poster Contest
The Montgomery SWCD held a poster contest to promote conservation. Fifth grade students competed and enjoyed learning how to better protect our land and water for future generations. They all received praise and $1 from Roger Cerven. The SWCD commissioners presented the top three awards with a monetary prize. 3rd Place ($5)-Tara Monahan, 2nd Place ($7.50)-Evan Hopf, 1st Place ($10)-Elly McDonald.
