If you plan on eating lunch with your child at school you MUST pay for your lunch and receive a lunch ticket in one of the offices before going to the lunchroom.

Attention Freshman:

Jostens will be here Thursday, March 9 during Activity period to hand out Class ring info. They will return on Wednesday, March 15 at 7:30 to pick up orders!

Athletic Banquet:

The Athletic Banquet will be held on April 21, 2017.  It will be held at the Viking Center this year.  The meal being served is a pork chop, baked potato, corn, roll, dessert and a drink.  The cost of the meal will be $8.00.  The meals for the coaches and athletes will be provided to them at no cost.  Please sign up in the high school office by April 7th if you plan on attending. Coaches and the athletes still need to sign up in the office so we have a good head count of how much food we need to get. See you there!

Meningococcal Vaccine Secondary School Requirement

February 15, 2017

 The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), Bureau of Immunization, has completed the administrative rulemaking process to require meningococcal (A, C W, Y) vaccine for students enrolling in 7th and 12th grades. The administrative rule change was effective January 11, 2017, and will be implemented at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year. The Immunization Program has developed a variety of materials regarding the new requirement. The following resources are available on the Immunization Program’s webpage.

 For the 2017-2018 school year, and all future school years, all students entering into 7th grade and born after September 15, 2004, will need proof of one dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine. All students entering into 12th grade and born after September 15, 1999, will need proof of two doses of meningococcal vaccine; or one dose if received when the student was 16 years of age or older.

 Adolescents are likely the main source of transmission for meningococcal disease. The new requirement will better protect students during their school years. Immunizations also help protect others within the home, in the community, and at school. About 10-15% of people with the meningococcal disease die even with appropriate treatment. Of those who recover, up to 20% suffer from serious after-effects, such as permanent hearing loss, limb loss, or brain damage. Meningococcal vaccines are very safe and effective at preventing meningococcal disease.

 There will be no grace/extension period for those students who have not received their first dose of the meningococcal vaccine. All 7th grade students born after September 15, 2004, will need to submit proof of the vaccination before enrolling in school. All 12th grade students born after September 15, 1999, will need to show proof of two doses; or 1 dose if received when the student was 16 years of age or older.

Wellness Wednesdays @ the Viking Center with Dr. Drew Whigham: March 15th, 6:30pm-7:30pm

The Viking Center would like to introduce a new monthly program: Wellness Wednesdays! One Wednesday each month, Dr. Drew Whigham will hold a seminar speaking about different topics related to health and wellness. Dr. Drew will be presenting information ranging from injury prevention, to current research in healthcare, to nutrition, and everywhere in between.

The discussion topic for March will be “Don’t Weight! Is Weight a Good Measure of Health?” This session will be held on Wednesday March 15th from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the Viking Room at the Viking Center. This is a FREE program. Dr. Drew will be discussing the current research on how we best measure health. He will be offering skinfold tests to assess body fat % and giving out free tools to scientifically calculate your metabolism.

MCMH Healthy University Cooking Class: Cooking on a Budget - Breakfast Recipes! Thursday, March 16th, 12pm


The Montgomery County Memorial Hospital will once again present their series of "Healthy University" classes with a cooking class held at the Viking Center.  This class titled "Cooking on a Budget" will take place in the Viking Room on Thursday, March 16th starting at 12:00pm.  Breakfast recipes will be featured for those in attendance.  Everyone is welcome to attend this FREE event.
