Congratulations State Speech Participants:

The Stanton High School speech team traveled to state individual speech contest at Johnston High School on Saturday, March 11. The students performed very well throughout afternoon. The results from state individual speech contest are:

Abby Volquartsen (1,1,1, Overall 1) in storytelling,

Alexis Stoakes (1,1,1, Overall 1) in acting & (1,1,1, Overall 1) in improvisation,  

Megan Shafer (1,1,2, Overall 1) in musical theater & (1,2,2, Overall 2) in spontaneous speaking, Libby Ernst (1,2,2, Overall 2) in literary program,

Noah Kammerer (1,1,1, Overall 1) in improvisation & (1,1,1, Overall 1) storytelling,

Camden Sundberg (1,2,2, Overall 2) in spontaneous speaking,

Chris Jones (1,2,2, Overall 2) in radio news,

Connor Hultman (unable to compete due to sickness) in radio news,

Jody Vanderholm (1,2,2, Overall 2) in prose, and

Austin Houston (2,2,2, Overall 2) in poetry.

We would like to thank the excellent support we had at contest from friends, family, and community members! Congratulations to the individual speech students! Good job at state!!

Jostens was here Thursday, March 9 to hand out Class ring info. They will return on Wednesday, March 15 at 7:45, to pick up orders!

Athletic Banquet:

The Athletic Banquet will be held on April 21, 2017.  It will be held at the Viking Center this year.  The meal being served is a pork chop, baked potato, corn, roll, dessert and a drink.  The cost of the meal will be $8.00.  The meals for the coaches and athletes will be provided to them at no cost.  Please sign up in the high school office by April 7th if you plan on attending. Coaches and the athletes still need to sign up in the office so we have a good head count of how much food we need to get. See you there!

Wellness Wednesdays @ the Viking Center with Dr. Drew Whigham: March 15th, 6:30pm-7:30pm

The Viking Center would like to introduce a new monthly program: Wellness Wednesdays! One Wednesday each month, Dr. Drew Whigham will hold a seminar speaking about different topics related to health and wellness. Dr. Drew will be presenting information ranging from injury prevention, to current research in health care, to nutrition, and everywhere in between.

The discussion topic for March will be “Don’t Weight! Is Weight a Good Measure of Health?” This session will be held on Wednesday March 15th from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the Viking Room at the Viking Center. This is a FREE program. Dr. Drew will be discussing the current research on how we best measure health. He will be offering skinfold tests to assess body fat % and giving out free tools to scientifically calculate your metabolism.

MCMH Healthy University Cooking Class: Cooking on a Budget - Breakfast Recipes! Thursday, March 16th, 12pm


 

The Montgomery County Memorial Hospital will once again present their series of "Healthy University" classes with a cooking class held at the Viking Center.  This class titled "Cooking on a Budget" will take place in the Viking Room on Thursday, March 16th starting at 12:00pm.  Breakfast recipes will be featured for those in attendance.  Everyone is welcome to attend this FREE event.
