RECESS FOR LIFE
April 15, 2016
Stanton Community School will be holding its’ annual Recess for Life next week. The American Cancer Society Relay for Life already exists in our community, providing an overnight event where community members have the opportunity to honor cancer survivors and remember those who have battled cancer while raising money for the American Cancer Society.
The students will be participating in the Recess for Life next week (April 18-22). During the week each classroom will have a container to collect loose change donations. Starting Monday, April 18th, through Friday, April 22nd, students may bring their pennies on Monday, nickels on Tuesday, dimes on Wednesday, quarters on Thursday, and bills on Friday. All money will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
Stanton Schools have the honor of hearing Paula Schnack of Oakland, Iowa speak about her battle with Melanoma on Friday, April 22. The 6th-12th students have been scheduled to attend the assembly from 11:30-12:00 and the elementary has been scheduled from 12:00-12:30. The public is invited and encouraged to come and listen to Paula Schnack speak and then participate in the afternoon activities.
Two thirds of all cancer is preventable, but in order to prevent it we need to teach students what they can do to help! Having a Recess for Life will help make children aware about making healthy choices about tobacco, physical activity, nutrition, and sun exposure. Please join Stanton School as we become a school that takes up the fight against cancer!
