The Vikings Set Sail To Battle The Admirals
Are the Vikes at a Disadvantage?
This will be Farragut’s FIFTH and final game. They have much more game experience than we do. However, our team is hungry to hit an opponent. We have been improving our focus and intensity in practices. The players, as well as the coaches, are eager to see the results from our efforts over the last three weeks! I am anticipating some HARD hits that will create some Admiral turnovers.
Opponent: Farragut Admirals
Game Site: Farragut
Bus Departs: 2:30
Game Time: Monday, Oct. 9 @ 4:00
South Page Junior High Football Team Folds
The Rebels started the season with 10 players and have lost a few players for various reasons. They have had to cancel the remaining portion of their game schedule. So…..
Along Comes Hamburg
Hamburg was also scheduled to play South Page, so Mr. Hicks called and lined up a game with them to give us a full 5 game schedule. We’re scheduled to play Hamburg on Thursday, October 19.
Anticipation of BIG Things
The team has been working hard for the past three weeks in preparation for the final two weeks of the season. As long as we take the field focused and intense, you’ll notice more aggressive play and better execution than what we were able to do in our first two games. We have been plagued with sickness and have not had everyone dressed for a practice in almost two weeks. In some cases, this has given some players an opportunity to step in and fill positions that they haven’t been able to practice/learn up to that point. Several of the seventh graders look to move into starting roles and/or see much more playing time.
BIG SCHSTICK!! Award
Our hitting, blocking, and tackling have all been improving as our intensity in practices has increased. Determining the next winner may need to be done by reviewing the game tape. There have been numerous good hits in our practices over the last 3 weeks. Unfortunately, we are a little beat up. Thursday and Friday practices were lighter on the physical and heavier on the thinking and concentration.

Practice times for next week
Tuesday’s practice will end by 3:15 for the athletes to catch the bus if they need to. They will be encouraged to stay and support the Junior High volleyball team. Many of the volleyball players are also cheerleaders for the football team. With 3 weeks of practice AND our morning workout participation, I feel comfortable enough with our progress to shorten a few practices.
AM Strength and Conditioning UPDATE!!
The participation in our AM workouts has been absolutely incredible! We had 100% participation both days this week (100% of those who were in school/practice). I am very proud of the effort they are showing. THANK YOU parents for enabling them to take part in these workouts. The workouts are making a difference in our entire team’s strength and conditioning! I think the kids are excited about the results they are noticing in their bodies. This success would not be possible without your encouragement!
In case your son has not shared with you, we have worked our way up from 50 to 350 squats and have moved into phase 2 (weights) of the program. We have been exhausting our bodies in the gym from 7:00-7:30, then going to the weight room to catch our breath. I have taught them the proper form and technique for several lifts. I have encouraged and enforced that they use light weight and higher repetitions until they have gotten the technique down. Most of them don’t have much left after the gym workout anyway J.
The next two Tuesday mornings we will be saying goodbye to some of the guys a little early to allow them to be showered up and get to Mrs. Nelson’s room by 8:10.
