GAME #2
It has been a busy week with homecoming activities. However, we are focused on strengthening our weaknesses to be more competitive. Offensively, we have focused on attacking at the LOS, sustaining blocks, and play execution. Defensively, we hope to improve our ability to contain, our intensity to pursue, and gang tackling. This week’s opponent will be very similar to last week’s; however, one half of Farragut/Sidney’s team will be playing in South Page the same night, so we’ll have about the same depth on the sidelines. I hope for another good hard hitting game so we can continue to grow.

Updated Junior Viking Webpages
Thanks to Jerry Hamilton’s help, we have a statistical summary of the Essex game. I have posted a summary of plays, yardage, and scoring. Unfortunately, the batteries to the digital camera died before Hunter could get any pictures taken at last week’s game. To view the results of the East Mills game, please go to the junior high football homepage at the following address: http://stantonschools.com/sports/Football/jhfootball/jrhighfootball.htm. Once there, click on the 2009 Season Schedule link. Our school’s website is best viewed using Internet Explorer.
BIG Schstick! Award
(a tradition of blocking and tackling excellence)
This coveted award originated 5 seasons ago and has really brought another dimension to the JH game. We are hoping this will continue to be a FUN, exciting and competitive award this season. Definition: The BIG Schstick! Award is proudly presented after each game to the athlete(s) that makes the biggest, hardest, loudest, bone-rattling, pad-popping, body-jarring HIT!
On Monday, September 14, 2009, Cade Confer earned the BIG Schstick! Award for the crushing hit he delivered on a kickoff return that sent a Wolverine out of bounds in commanding fashion. He also made some great bone-crushing tackles. Keep it up Cade!
Eligibility
Please check on your son’s classroom status. Mid-term is next Friday, September 25, and reports will come out shortly after. In order to stay eligible and participate, an athlete must be passing ALL classes. We have been reminding them that academics come first AND if they need to miss practice in order to get help from a teacher—that is okay. HOWEVER, we strongly encourage them to be responsible enough to take care of their assignments on time and not get themselves into a position where they will need to miss practice.
Over the Weekend
We have been urging the young men to get out do something (exercise) over the weekend vs just lying around. In addition to that, I would also ask they get plenty of sleep to keep their immune systems up. There is a lot of nasty sickness going around. I pray the team does not get what I have had the last 5 days.
