The Dirty Dozen?

I don’t know for sure who is responsible for being the first to call us the dirty dozen, but the nickname has stuck.  We officially have 14 athletes on our roster; however, 13 is the most we’ll be able to field in any game this year.  I clarified dirty doesn’t mean that it is reflection of playing dirty, but rather perhaps it can be our intense, competitive spirit to scrap and give all we’ve got every game and never, never quit.

Ready or not, here come the Wolverines!

Opponent:  East Mills                               Game Site:  Stanton            Game Time:  4:00-5:30

Please take time to double-check equipment before Monday and let me know if there is anything questionable first thing Monday morning.  Thank you to those who have had to do some sewing.  I appreciate it!

It’s Game time!

Your sons have been showing steady improvement in our regular practices and more recently, in the AM conditioning sessions.  THANK YOU for your support in making these AM sessions a success.  Our team goals will be easier to realize as a result of your efforts.  Our first game will give us coaches a much better feel for what positions on the field are going to be the best for each athlete within the scope of what is best for the TEAM.  It is my goal to get every prepared athlete into every game.

An Athlete’s Playing Time

How much playing time each athlete will have is determined by attitude, attendance, ability, and knowledge of our system.  A player’s attitude is defined by his willingness to put his team first, his hustle from one activity to the next, his cooperation with teammates, his desire to improve himself and the team in every drill, practice and game, and his willingness to do whatever it takes to be prepared to be the best he can be to make a contribution to the team—this includes keeping up on schoolwork and staying eligible.  Parents are always welcome to observe practices any time.

Picture Day

It’s tomorrow, Friday.  Your son was given an envelope to take to home on Wednesday after practice.  Purchasing pictures is optional.  Everyone will be in the team picture.  I will get a team picture to post on the school website if you would like to print a copy of that.  Also, the booster club purchases 2 photo buttons for each athlete’s parent.  If you desire more than 2 buttons, you’ll need to money for each additional button.

Game Jersey Information

Game jerseys will be issued tomorrow.  It will be your son’s responsibility to take care of his jersey and have it with him on game days.  His game jersey is his ticket to play.  Also, I’ve asked that they try to find a white t-shirt to wear under their game jersey to avoid any bright pinks, fluorescent greens or

any other non-team colors.  They have been informed that they may wear their game jersey to the varsity games on Friday nights and to school on game days.  Game jerseys should not be worn for any other public display.

Newsletters

Please ask your son for a newsletter after the practice prior to our next game.  The third newsletter will be distributed next Friday, September 12.  Current and past newsletters will be available on the Junior Vikings Football webpage.

H20 bottles

The team will be supplied with a large cooler of water; however, the athletes will be responsible for supplying their own water container.

Statistician/Photographer

With the help of Andy Parsons (#77), and Julie Strickland, I hope to be able to provide fairly accurate team stats and pictures from each game.  Game information will then posted online within a few days following the game.

IF YOU HAVE ANY RESERVATIONS ABOUT YOUR SON BEING PICTURED OR LISTED ON THE WEBSITE, PLEASE EMAIL ME AT jgrebin@stantonschools.com

Wednesday, September 10,  NO SCHOOL

MAYBE we will have practice.  IF we do, I would like to practice from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

7:15 AM Conditioning

On Wednesdays and Fridays only, we will continue to workout to help condition and develop strength, stability, and endurance of the core muscle groups.  These workouts are optional and do not directly affect playing time.
