Horatio Alger Iowa Scholarship Program  – due October 30
-must pursue a bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year Institution) (Recipients of the National or Ak-Sar-Ben Scholarship Program may pursue a degree at a college of their choice) (Recipients of the Iowa Scholarship Program must pursue a degree at a community college in Iowa for the first two years or the University of Iowa)
-critical financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred, if higher explanation must be provided)

 J.D. Edwards Honors Program in Computer and Science and Management -University of Nebraska at Lincoln - due Dec. 1
-Regardless of major, the J.D. Edwards Honors Program will cover all the tuition for the required credit hours (total value estimated to be between $10,000 and $15,000)
-a composite ACT score of 30 or higher
-3.5 or better high school G.P.A.
-demonstrated interest in technology and business

 

The Iowa Arts Scholarship for the Arts - due December 10
-must be enrolled at the senior class level in an Iowa high school
-must have proven artistic ability in the area of music, dance, visual arts, traditional arts, theatre or literature (creative writing)
-be accepted as a full-time undergraduate student at a fully accredited Iowa college or university with a major in one or more of the areas listed above
-up to five scholarships of $1,000 to $2,000 are awarded annually

Iowa State Scholarships for Excellence in Agriculture - due December 3
-rank in the upper 15% of your high school class after six semesters
-have the potential to make a significant contribution to society (as demonstrated by extracurricular activities or employment experiences)
-have a high school cumulative grade point of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
-have an ACT or SAT percentile rank of 90 or higher
-have applied for admission to Iowa State University’s College of Agriculture

 

Iowa State University – College of Agriculture – Freshman Scholarships in Agriculture – due December 3
-must rank in the upper 25th percentile in both class rank and national test scores
-demonstrate leadership potential by extracurricular and work  experiences
-enroll in ISU’s College of Education

 

The University of Iowa’s Presidential Scholarships – due December 14
-must rank in the top 5% of your high school class or have a 3.8 cumulative GPA

Elks National Foundation Scholarships

1. Legacy Awards for Children of Elks - due January 12, 2007
-Child, grandchild, step-child or step-grandchild of an Elk in good standing and a high school senior
-based on leadership development and civic responsibility
-500 one-year, $1,000 scholarships
2.  Most Valuable Student Scholarship Contest - due January 12, 2007
-High school senior and U. S. citizen
-based on scholarship, leadership and financial need
- 500 four-year awards ranging from $1,000 per year to $15,000 per year 
3.  In 2006, the Elks National Foundation awarded its last Eagle Scout Award. The Board of Trustees decided to discontinue funding for the two Scouts scholarship programs, in favor of increasing funding for our own Most Valuable Student program. By doing so, all Boy Scouts that meet the Most Valuable Student eligibility criteria are able to apply.
    The National Eagle Scout Association continues to offers academic scholarships, for applications and other information visit the National Eagle Scout Association's website. 4.   Emergency Educational Grants - due between July 1 and December 31 of the academic year for which the assistance is desired
-Child of an Elk who is deceased to totally incapacitated, financial need, unmarried, under the age of 23, full-time undergraduate student
-renewable one-year grants typically ranging from $1,000 to $4,000

Any current high school JUNIOR who meets the following qualifications is eligible:

-Has at least 2.75 cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale for the 9th and 10th grades
-Demonstrates accomplishments in Leadership and Community Service and has faced a significant roadblock or challenge.

National Wild Turkey Federation - due February 1
-must be a senior with a 3.0 grade point average
-must be pursuing a degree at an accredited institution of higher education
-must support the preservation of the hunting tradition and actively participate in hunting sports—a copy of a current hunting license is required
-must be a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation (Xtreme JAKES, student or regular membership)
-must be involved in school activities
-must demonstrate ability as a leader among his or her peers
-must demonstrate community involvement
-must submit an essay and autobiography exhibiting dedication to conservation
-must submit three letters of recommendation
-Local Scholarship Winner will receive a minimum of $250
-State/Provincial Scholarship Winner will receive a minimum of $1,000

College of Professional and Applied Studies Freshmen Scholarship (NWMSU)
- $2,500
- due February 1
- must major in one of the areas in College of professional and Applied Studies
Accounting, Economics, Finance, Business Education, International Business,
Office Management Systems, Broadcasting, Journalism Agriculture, Marketing, Management, Computer Science
- Scholarship based upon the following:
1. Information provided on the application form.
2. One letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, counselor, or administrator.
3. A one or two page essay about
    -why the individual wants to pursue a career in the selected field and
    -why the individual wants to pursue an education in that field at Northwest.

 

Christina Hixson Opportunity Award - due February 1
Criteria for Eligibility:
1. Students must be residents of Iowa.
2. Students must be admissible to Iowa State University.
3. Students must demonstrate financial eligibility.
4. Students must have faced challenges of personal and/or financial hardship.
5. Students must possess the potential to succeed.
Application procedures:
1. Complete and mail the application for the Hixson Opportunity Award by February 1.
2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 1
     at www.FAFSA.ed.gov.
3. Complete the Iowa State University admission process by February 1.
4. Submit a recommendation from a guidance counselor, teacher, or community leader that specifically discusses your qualifications based on the Criteria for Eligibility.

 

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship – due February 1
-have a minimum of a 28 ACT
-rank in the top 10% of the student’s high school graduating class
-be a legal Iowa resident
-be scheduled to graduate this spring
-have completed 3 years of science including biology, chemistry and physics; 2 years of the same foreign language; 4 years of English; 3 years of social studies; and 3 years of    math beyond general math and pre-algebra
-have applied or been accepted at an accredited postsecondary school

 

Masonic Scholarship - due February 1
-Approximately 60 scholarships in the amount of $2,000 will be awarded
-Must be a senior planning to attend an accredited institution which provides (1) a two or four year college program or (2) vocational training
-Need not have a Masonic connection
-The principal criterion is service to school and community with special emphasis  upon leadership roles in these areas.
-An applicant’s record, communication skills, and need for financial assistance are also considered carefully as is an evaluation of the applicant by a school official.
-The organization, appearance, and completeness of the application itself is also a factor considered in the selection process.
-The Scholarship Selection Committee will select a number of finalists who will be asked to appear before the committee for a personal interview.

VEISHEA Leadership Scholarship - due February 4
-Have been accepted to Iowa State University and plan to attend in the fall of 2008
-Display excellent leadership qualities, high academic achievement and outstanding personal character
-Have an ACT score of at least 26
-Are in the top 15% of his or her graduating class
-Can attend the VEISHEA celebration to receive the award April 10-12, 2008

VEISHEA  Community Involvement Scholarship - due February 4
-Have been accepted to Iowa State University and plan to attend in the fall of 2008
-Have an exceptional community service background
-Display leadership qualities, excel academically, and have outstanding personal character
-Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
-Can attend the VEISHEA celebration to receive the award April 10-12, 2008

 Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship – February 15
-100 $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who come from a farm family and plan to pursue a career in the field of agriculture
-the National FFA Organization administers this program, but applicants are not required to be an FFA member

-all applications must be submitted online

 

Cargill Scholarship Program – February 15
This program is for U.S. high school seniors in Cargill communities planning to pursue a two- or four-year degree in any major. Applicants must visit their local Cargill facility or subsidiary and obtain a signature from a Cargill manager on their application. The Cargill Community Scholarship Program awards 350 one-time $1,000 scholarships each year. The program is administered by National FFA.   http://www.ffa.org/programs/scholarships/

 

FFA Scholarships – due February 15, 2008

Iowa Newspaper Foundation Scholarships – due February 15
-Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic record, demonstrated talent and desire to work for an Iowa newspaper.
-Some consideration will be given to financial need.

-based on merit, not financial need

American Legion Essay Contest – Feb. 28
-300 word essay – The topic of the essay is “Why I’m Proud to Support Our American Troops”
- First place - $ 300 scholarship, Second place - $200, Third place - $100
-include a history about yourself including your school activities, interests and future plans

 

 Conservation District of Iowa and Montgomery Soil and Water Conservation District Scholarships
-due Feb. 29
-presented to high school seniors pursuing programs in any field of agriculture or natural resources
-local scholarship of $400
-Winners will be asked to volunteer 4 to 8 hours working in the NRCS office in Red Oak, giving students a better understanding of conservation work done through this organization.
-three state level scholarships of $1,800, $1,200, and $1,000, and $200 for each of the six regional winners
-criteria consideration will be points: 45 for need; 30 for leadership; 25 for scholastic achievement. Leadership includes service, character, and self-motivation – 10 points each.

 

Meridith Communications Southwest Iowa Scholarship – due March 1
-four $1,000 scholarships
-available to students who are graduates of a southwest Iowa high school who wish to further their educational pursuits at a college, university, business or vocational training facility

 

The Foundation for Rural Services (FRS) College Scholarship Program – due March 1
-30 $2,
500 scholarships will be awarded with 19 remaining awards distributed proportionate to the number of applications received per region
-must be a graduating high school senior
-must have existing telephone service with Farmers Mutual Telephone Company (prefix number of 585,586 or 829)
-must be accepted by an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school
-must have at least a C grade point average
-express an interest to return to a rural community following graduation
-applications must be sponsored by Farmers Mutual Telephone Company and bear Kevin Cabbage’s signature

 

Iowa State LINC, Leaders INspiring Connections, Scholarship – due March 1
-two $250 scholarships
-Given to recognize students for outstanding contributions to their community through service and leadership
-minimum high school GPA of 3.0
-must plan on attending Iowa State University in the fall of 2005

 

ACACIA Leadership Scholarship - due March 1

-available to any male graduating from and accredited Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, or Nebraska high school
-must be attending either Iowa State University

2007 Careers in Agriculture Scholarship Program – due March 1
-ten $1,000 scholarships
-must be a high school senior planning to enroll in a two- or four-year agronomy or related crop production curriculum in the fall of 2007
-demonstrate both leadership abilities and academic performance

 

George W. Loomis Health Career Scholarship – due March 1
-$1,000
- must be a graduating senior with a 24 ACT score and an outstanding record of achievement
-intend to go into a health career of any type
-based on a review of the applicant’s scholastic record/academic achievement, involvement in school and community activities, and financial need

 

Page County Farm Bureau – due March 1, 2008
-applicant must be a boy or girl from a Farm Bureau member family
-must have at least a 3.0 grade point average
-scholarship available only to those entering professions or vocations requiring at least a minimum of two years of college

 

Iowa Soybean Association Ag Scholarship Program– Due March 1
- $2,000 scholarships
-3.0 GPA or better
-Recipients must show scholastic achievement, community leadership, other achievements and interests.

 

Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Scholarship Program - due March 1
-must be a son and/or daughter of an Iowa Farm Bureau member
-must be accepted by or enrolled in an accredited college or university or community college
-must be a high graduate or have an expected graduation date of Spring 2008
-college freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors in a 2 or 4 year accredited college or university are eligible to apply
-students must maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average throughout their college career to continue to qualify for this scholarship
-applicants must be working toward a degree in one of the following occupational areas of agriculture and/or agribusiness: (1)Production, (2) Horticulture, (3)Sales and Service, (4)Products and Processing, (5) Forestry, (6)Conservation, (7)Mechanization, (8) Research, (9) Economics, (10) Education and (11)Ag Health

 

Tobacco Free Scholarship – March 1

“SMOKING KILLS” Education Awareness Inc. will offer a scholarship to one Montgomery County tobacco-free senior with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.  The student must be preparing to enter a two or four year-college or technical school.  The county’s winner of the scholarship will have actively demonstrated support of a tobacco-free lifestyle.  Participating locally in “SMOKING KILLS” Education Awareness activities and anti-tobacco activities will be of benefit.  Proof of activities will be required.  A typed essay of 750-1,000 words telling of the candidate’s reasons for being tobacco –free and of the consequences of tobacco use for both user and the non-user will also be required.  Submission of the essay gives permission for publication in local media.  Awards will be given at the winner’s Awards Assembly in May of 2008.  Applications are available in the high school guidance office.

Iowa Automobile Dealers Foundation for Education Scholarship - due March 10
-awarded to graduating seniors interested in the pursuit of automotive or truck-related studies, such as technician training, body shop/collision repair, diesel, new vehicle sales, parts sales, accounting, or business administration.

 

Iowa Western Community College Foundation Scholarship – due March 15
-Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement and/or financial need

 

2005 Balanced Man Scholarship – due March 15
-awarded to incoming freshman at Iowa State University, Drake University, University of Northern Iowa, University of Iowa or Univesity of Minnesota
-based on scholarship, athletics, leadership, and community involvement

LOCAL STANTON  SCHOLARSHIPS - due March 17, 2008

Class of l960 - Based on academics, leadership, and participation in school and community activities plus an aptitude in business.     $200.00           

Double Dozen Scholarship - Academics, character, leadership and potential for growth and success. $150.00

Duane Falk Scholarship - Based on academics, leadership, and participation in school and community activities.   Number and amount designated annually.

Kenneth E. Johnson Memorial Scholarship - Based on good citizenship and participation in school and community activities.  $100.00

John Olson Memorial Scholarship  -  Sponsored by the Stanton Optimist Club. 
John Olson was a vital, contributing member of the Stanton Community.  He was active in community service through the Stanton Optimists and his church.  As a member of Toastmasters, communication skills were important to him.  He was a real leader in Stanton.  The following areas are evaluated based on information included in the applicant’s letter and resume.  Community service at school and in the community, communication at school and in the community, extra-curricular activities, plans for your future

Larmon Scholarship - Based on academics excellence and achievement in school and community activities.  Number and amount designated annually.

Randy Larson Memorial Scholarship - Sponsored by the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary.  Based on academic and leadership accomplishments.  Must be a relative of a veteran.     $200.00

National Honor Society Scholarship - One member---one non-member. Based on classes taken and grades.   $100.00 each

Stanton Faculty and Administrators Scholarship - Must be going into an education field.  One $100.00 award

Stanton Care Center Vetter Scholarship - Based on academics, leadership, character, and potential for success in a health related area.  Number and amount designated annually.  

Sherie Wistrom Memorial Scholarships - One music related scholarship and one nursing related scholarship.  All are encouraged to apply.  (Amount determined yearly)

Stephanie (Peterson) and Christopher Stein Scholarship – April 1 -  Must be attending Iowa State University. Based on moral character, attitude, leadership, activities in school, and community service.  Number of scholarships designated annually.  $500    

Ruth Stone Memorial Scholarship  - April 15 - Based on citizenship, leadership, participation in school, church and community activities.  Scholarship may be used for any type of higher education. $300

Ashley and Brooke Maley Memorial Scholarship – April 15 - Two scholarships are available with the mount to be determined yearly. Open to all senior students.  Students may be pursuing any type of post-secondary education.

Class of 1963 – One scholarship given to a graduating senior from Stanton Community High School.  Students may be pursuing any type of post-secondary education.  $200

Janis Peterson Memorial Scholarship – Must be entering the field of education.  Based on academics, leadership, attitude, and community service

 

Beta Sigma Psi Merit Scholarship -due March 16
-two $500 scholarships
-given to Lutheran gentlemen entering Iowa State in the Fall of 2001
-applicants will be evaluated on their scholastic achievement and active participation in their communities and churches

 

Elks Vocational Scholarship – March 19
-$500
-Designated for students who will be pursuing a 2 year or less vocational training education or program
-The student does not need to be a relative of an Elks member.  It is open to all students that meet the criteria.

 

LaDonna Focht Endowed Scholarship – due March 31, 2008
-Three scholarships are available to graduating seniors from Stanton, Red Oak and Villisca High Schools.
-three scholarships in the amount of approximately $200

Southwest Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative Scholarship – March 31
- $500 scholarships
-Scholarships are for graduating seniors whose parents/guardians are members of Southwest Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative and reside in their service territory.
-Special consideration will be given to any student attending an accredited  lineman school.

 

Audrey Buck Memorial Scholarship – due March 31
-$1,000 scholarship
-Awarded to a female student who has shown good moral character through her high school years and has a financial need to continue her education.
-The family has expressed a desire to award the scholarship to an average student who shows potential to fulfill her goals.

 

Jack Hyler Memorial Scholarship – due March 26
-$1,000
-Applicants must be in the top 25% of their graduation class and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
-Preference will be given to students who plan a career in the field of education. 

 

 Stephanie (Peterson) and Christopher Stein Scholarship -due April 1
The Stephanie (Peterson) and Christopher Stein Scholarship was established in the spring of 2001 in memory of Stephanie (Peterson) and Christopher Stein.  Stephanie was a 1991 graduate of Stanton High School.  Stephanie and Christopher were 1996 graduates of Iowa State University.

-two $500 scholarships
1. The scholarship(s) shall be awarded to graduating seniors of Stanton Community Schools.
2. Applicants shall pursue a four-year degree at Iowa State University.
3. Applicants will submit a local scholarship application, which includes a written letter containing personal information, post-secondary education plans, and the need for the scholarship.
4. Applicants shall have been accepted at Iowa State University and plan to attend in the fall of the current year.
5. Applicants shall be judged as follows:
50% Good moral character, attitude, and leadership
50% Activities in school and community service
Special consideration will be made for students majoring in entomology.

 

Montgomery County Farm Bureau Scholarship - due April 1, 2007
-Two $500 scholarships
- You must be a son or daughter of a Montgomery County Farm Bureau member, or an adult member yourself.
-You must be entering college for the first time.
-You must be a high school graduate or expect to graduate in the spring of 2007.
-GPA minimum of 3.0 is necessary.
-Scholarship is not renewable.  It is payable at the beginning of the second semester of school following proof of first semester 2.0 minimum grade average and enrollment in school.
-Criteria:
30% Demonstrated Need
20% Scholastic
20% Involvement
30% Recommendations and interviews (interviews may be conducted for final selection)

 

Professional Educators of Iowa - Teacher of Tomorrow Award - due April 1
-four $500 scholarships
-must be an Iowa student aspiring to teach

 

Marcia Bandstra Memorial Scholarship – April 1
-one $500 scholarship
-must be entering a humanitarian degree program

 

Ray and Ruth Wallin Scholarship - due April 1
-$500
-open to all seniors at Stanton
-Since this is a church sponsored scholarship the primary basis for consideration in awarding this scholarship are the following:
-religious affiliation and activity
-financial need
-level of community and employment activity
-probable success in chose area of study

 

Mamrelund Scholarship - due April 1
-$250
-available to any member of the Mamrelund Congregation who is enrolled in a Lutheran college
-Since this is a church sponsored scholarship the primary basis for consideration in awarding

Montgomery County Pheasants Forever Scholarship - due April 1
-$250 scholarship
-must be a senior planning to attend a college or technical school requiring more than one semester
-Qualifications include a letter stating your understanding of how soil and water conservation can maintain or improve the quality of life, for us the people as well as wildlife.  You can write about habitat and preservation for wildlife, your personal experiences, or your ideas to improve methods of land and wildlife conservation.
-All students are encouraged to apply

 

Farmers Mutual Telephone Company/White City Scholarship - due April 1
-two $750 scholarships
-must reside in an area where the Farmers Mutual Telephone Company provides service
-must have existing telephone service with a prefix number of either 585, 586 or 829
-must rank in the upper 1/2 of their class
-applicants entering a technical school, a two-year college, or a four-year school will be given consideration

-for students whose family is involved in the beef industry, and is a member of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association

-$1000 scholarships
-awarded to graduating seniors interested in pursuing a career within the automotive industry

 

Dr. Dick Alan Bergren Scholarship – April 1
-the purpose is to promote a course of study in the fields of science, technology, physics, chemistry or math
-open to high school students who reside in Montgomery county or attend a high school in Montgomery county
-The focus of the scholarship is to promote learning in specific fields of study related to the sciences.  The primary emphasis in selection of the final applicant will not be placed on academics or academic standing but more on the course of intended study being pursued by the applicant.  Financial status of parents, family or applicant will be considered secondary to the potential skills of the applicant in the chosen field of study.

 

Iowa West Foundation - due April 1, 2008
-twenty-five scholarships of $5,000 per year
-must be a 2008 high school graduate and an ACT score of at least 25
-must enroll as a full-time student in a four-year program, leading to a baccalaureate degree

 

Montgomery County 4-H County Council Scholarship  - April 1
-Must be an active member in Montgomery County 4-H
-Must be a senior in high school

 

Project 21 Council Bluffs Scholarship - due April 16
-open to all high school students
-five $1,000 scholarships

-students must submit an article, poster or project on the topic of underage gambling
-the article, poster or project must be presented to the students in the school by use of the school bulletin or displaying the poster or project to the student body

 

Ashley and Brooke Maley Memorial Scholarship – April 15
-The Ashley and Brooke Maley Memorial Scholarship was established in the spring of 2003 in memory of Ashley and Brooke Maley who were students of the Stanton Community School.
- Two scholarships available – Amount determined yearly
-Open to all senior students
-Students may be pursuing any type of post-secondary education
-Applicants will submit a local scholarship application, which contains a letter stating information about their family, their educational goals and career plans, their work experience, and their reasons for applying for the scholarship.
-The scholarship will be paid to the student after completion of the first semester of college.
